If you are doing some niche research in preparation for creating a new website, writing an EBook, or if you are just trying to think of some new content for your existing website, it helps if you can find out what questions people are asking.

One great way to do this is to use a keyword research tool and enter the first part of a question. For example:

How do…?
Why does…?
Who is…?
What is…?
How can…?
When do…?

A good keyword tool should then return you the most popular questions that start with these words. If you want to be successful online, providing people with the answers to these questions can be very lucrative.

To illustrate this, I’ve done some keyword research for you. I entered the root keyword “How do” into the Keyword Snatcher tool and asked it to do deep research using Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.

The result was over 3000 questions that people are typing into search engines. There were many very interesting questions, along with a few quite disturbing and some downright bizarre ones :-)

Here are a few samples:

  • how do cats purr?
  • how do you get that lonely?
  • how do guys flirt when they like you?
  • how do kids earn money online?
  • how do nascar drivers go to the bathroom?
  • how do robins find worms in the ground?
  • how do they test for swine flu symptoms?
  • how do you know if you’re pregnant with twins?
  • how do muscles grow bigger?
  • how do dinosaurs say goodnight?  (my favorite :-) )

I’ve put these keywords into a text file and you can download it by clicking here (right click to save to your computer).

If you want to find our what questions people are asking for yourself one way to do it is by using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. This tool will only return around 300 or so keyword phrases for the “how do” base keyword, so it may take you a lot of manual work to find more keywords. Keyword Snatcher was still going at 3900 keywords – read a review of Keyword Snatcher here.  Another alternative that is very good for building large long tail keyword lists is Wordtracker.

Hope you find the keyword list useful, or at least interesting/amusing !

Keyword Snatcher Review

UPDATE: Keyword Snatcher is no longer available. If you are looking for a similar tool, there is a tool called Keyword Ninja, which is priced exactly the same as Keyword Snatcher and works in a very similar way. If you purchase Keyword Ninja through this link you can claim the same bonuses as I describe at the bottom of this review.

Today Jon Leger just launched his new keyword research software – Keyword Snatcher. It’s only available for 5 days – Monday 20th June until Friday 25th June, so I decided to purchase it and take it for a test ride. Here is my Keyword Snatcher Review which will hopefully help you to decide whether or not this software could be useful to you. Plus, scroll down for a bonus if you purchase from this site.

Keyword Snatcher Review

Overview:

Keyword Snatcher is basically a keyword research tool that allows you to create a big lists of keywords, but it does this in a unique and different way from other keyword research tools on the market. It runs on Windows and allows you to type in a root keyword. It then goes away and uses search suggestion information from Google, Yahoo and Bing to create a huge keyword list ordered by popularity.

Keyword Snatcher will return keyword data from a choice of 31 different countries. It also allows you to export the keywords into a spreadsheet or a text file and there is a niche research facility to help you find new niche ideas.

Who would use this tool?

You’ll find this tool useful if you

  • Have your own website or blog
  • Want to improve your search engine rankings
  • Write blog posts
  • Write and submit articles to article directories

Installing Keyword Snatcher

It is a straightforward 2 click install. Download the setup file to your computer, double click on it and then enter your registration key. Once you’ve done that, you are up and running. It will only run on Windows, so if you are a Mac user, you’ll need a Windows Emulator on your Mac.

Comparison of Keyword Snatcher to Other Popular Keyword Tools

Prior to downloading this software I have used two main tools for my keyword research – the Google Adwords keyword tool (free) and Wordtracker (paid). If I compare Keyword Snatcher with these two tools I would say that it is superior to the Adwords tool as it returns A LOT MORE keywords. For example if I type in “Internet Business” into the Google Adwords tool while I am logged in it gives me a total of 188 keyword phrases (exact match) that contain the words “internet business”. Keyword Snatcher returns a total of 902 phrases! This means that there is a lot that the Google tool is not telling us!

WordTracker is capable of returning more keyword phrases than Google, but it does take a lot of clicks and “digs” to get to such a high number AND they charge a recurring subscription fee.

So in summary, the advantage of Keyword Snatcher compared to these two tools is that it returns a lot more keywords, with very little work required on your part AND there is no recurring fee.

Pros and Cons of Keyword Snatcher:

Negative Points:

  • You can’t minimize or do anything else on your computer while using this tool, which can be a bit annoying if you are busy. – Update 24th June – this has now been fixed!
  • Only available until Friday 25th June :-(
  • No competition figures

Positive Points

  • Very simple to install and use
  • No special knowledge required to use it – just type in a couple of words and you are off
  • Capable of generating a very large list of keyword phrases (more than any other tool I have used)
  • No recurring subscription fees

Overall, I highly recommend Keyword Snatcher for its great feature set, ease of use and very reasonable $47 price.

Bonus

If you decide to purchase Keyword Snatcher and do so through my link you will get a free copy of 10 Ways to Improve your Search Engine Rank (sells for $9.95) and my Get More Backlinks EBook (sells for $37). Just contact me after purchase with your name and I’ll send you a download link!

I often get asked the question “How long does it take to rank well in the search engines?” Unfortunately his is one of these questions with the answer “it depends“!

There are so many factors that are taken into account by search engines when they rank other websites including:

  • On page optimization – in particular the TITLE tag and the keywords throughout the body of the page
  • How many backlinks are pointing to the site
  • The quality of the backlinks pointing to the site
  • The keywords contained within the anchor text of your backlinks
  • The age of your domain

These are just a few of the factors, but it gives you an idea of why this question is not so easy to answer.

Regardless of this, before you embark on an SEO campaign it makes sense for you to have in mind a timescale. Like all goals, it is good to be specific about the results that you want to achieve and the time frame that you want to achieve them in. For example “I want to be in the top 3 sites in Google for keyword phrase xyz and abc withn 4 months”.

Before you set yourself a goal, you need to make sure it is realistic. The best way to do this in my opinion is to check out your competition. You’ll probably already have a couple of keyword phrases in mind, so you need to take each keyword individually and do the following:

1) Go to Google and enter your keyword in the search box without quotes

2) You’ll see a number of website pages returned in the results. Don’t freak out if this number is high – although it is typical for more competitive terms to have a higher number of pages returned in the results, you are only really competing with the sites that are on the first page. If you can beat them, you are at the top.

3) Take a note of the domain names of the top 3 websites and use a backlink checking tool to see how many backlinks they have.

4) Compare the number of backlinks that these sites have with the number of backlinks that your own site has. This will give you a rough indication of how long it is likely to take you to beat your competition. For example if your site has 300 backlinks and the number one site has 2000 backlinks, you need to work out roughly how long it will take you to exceed 2000 backlinks. Bear in mind that this is a rough indication only as the quality of the backlinks also plays a large factor in ranking.

5) Take a closer look at the sites you are competing with. If you are trying to rank your home page and you are competing against a site that has a sub page or blog page ranked, it should be easier to beat them. If the site you are competing with does not have the keywords in the TITLE tag or mentioned throughout the page it may also be easier to beat them.

Although there is not an exact  scientific answer for the question how long does it take to rank well in the search engines, hopfully these steps will help to give you an idea of the length of time it takes.

You may have to repeat this process a few times until you find a keyword that allows you to acheive a good ranking in as short a time as possible.
